Als Gitarren-Legende Ritchie Blackmore Deep Purple im Jahre 1975 verließ, brach für viele Fans der Band eine Welt zusammen, prägte doch Blackmore den Stil des Hardrock-Urgesteins durch sein intensives, virtuoses und zugleich gefühlvolles Spiel maßgeblich.
Die kompositorische Vielfalt umfasste dabei radiotaugliche Hits wie Long Live Rock’n’Roll oder Since You Been Gone, musikalische Epen a la Stargazer oder Gates of Babylon, aber auch wunderschöne Balladen wie Catch the Rainbow und Temple of the King.
